Serving Up Ham Right Before Thanksgiving

Sometimes it’s the look of surprise, followed by immediate grin. Sometimes it’s a look of confusion. Then there are times when the subject knows it’s ‘all about him’ for a few seconds—along with a chance to get a fresh photo for social media use. Regatta race photography is not always serious.

Witness these San Francisco Bay racers hamming it up the week before turkey day. At Saturday’s South Beach YC midwinters we see the Frenchman Patrick—always stylish no matter the conditions. He sends love to the Heart of Gold Crew (my ride for the day’s photo jaunt). In a second pass he zeroes in on me from the sunny side. You see, I’ve flashed him that “I’m watching you” gesture on a few occasions (as well as other cool racers) and he’s dishing it back at me. I’m not quite sure he understands the second part of the gesture though--where he’s supposed to next spike out his fingers at me.

Saturday jambon was followed by ducks and ample ham at the annual Crew You Regatta, Sunday. Here’s a camera hamera on the crew off Backwards, then there’s my buddy Sandwich Boy Francisco feeling mighty. What’s that Spanish dish with rice, ham and seafood—as yes, paella. The RC boat adds to the recipe with Larry the Lobster and Jasper, and Evil Octopus blends Robin and a dash of brew from Pytlak (the man with no first name).
